Match reports

Ringmaster Royals tame mighty Lions

In a game that was full of rollercoaster ride of ups and downs for both teams, the Royals overcame the toughest team of the league, MOCC Lions by 27 runs. The Toss was won by the Royals captain Snehal Patel who decided to bat first. The Royals innings started steadily but cautiously by the experienced Satbir and the rookie Harvey Singh. They scored at a steady 7 runs an over, but were assisted by some wayward bowling from the lions lead pace bowlers, till the ninth over, when a skidder from Suneel sent Satbir packing. Some tight bowling from there on kept Royals scorecard under check but Harvey had other plans. He scored his maiden half century in his very first game in TCL. He hit 8 fours and 2 mighty sixes in his well paced innings of 63. The RCC middle order continued to move the scoreboard forward, but the most distinguished innings came from the Royals skipper who continued his magical form with the bat and his bad luck with the milestone. Snehal hit 48 in just 26 balls with the help of 3 fours and 3 huge sixes which sent Royals past a defendable score against a strong batting lineup of the Lions. The Royals amassed 242 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 35 overs. The Lions bowled well as a team, Puneet being the most successful bowler with 2 wickets for 41 runs and was assisted by Jalandar Musku who grabbed 2 scalps followed by 1 each by Challagali brothers and one wicket for Vijay Kolli. The Lions started their innings in usual aggressive style scoring in boundaries for the first couple of overs. They reached the 50 landmark in just 4 overs, thanks to some powerful hitting by their skipper Vijay Kolli and some below par bowling by RCC pacers. This forced RCC to bring on their first bowling change in the third over itself and a successful one. Vijay was caught behind in Snehal’s first over and triggered a mini collapse of Lions batting lineup. Keyur picked 2 quick wickets and at the first drinks break, half of Lions team was back to the pavilion with scoreboard reading only 72. The fall of wickets did not have any affect on Lions scoring rate though. Shyam and Suneel had an ominous partnership of 71 runs for the 6th wicket which almost turned the tables in the favor of Lions. However, Shyam misjudged one from Rinku and the ball was sharply caught by the wicketkeeper Hardeep. Royals streak of joy did not last very long as the next batsman Neel was at his destructive best and started hitting any and all of the RCC bowlers out of the park. He did survive a catch that was hit hard and flat to mid wicket but was dropped at the boundary due to its sheer force. The wicket of Neel however proved to be the final nail in the coffin of Lions innings and the most precious reward to Ravi for his consistent bowling. The final wicket was more of a formality that Royals bowlers duly obliged with and got over the finish line. It was a great team effort from Royals which was seen in their conduct in the field, consistency in bowling attack, alertness and never say die attitude which finally got them the prized victory over an insurmountable Lions who have hardly tasted defeat in the 35 over format in TCL. Keyur was the most successful RCC bowler with 3 wickets, 2 each for Rinku and Ravi while Snehal and Daman picked up one each. While this win instills a lot of confidence in a new look Royals team, it was very obvious why Lions are the most dangerous team in TCL and the most prized victory to claim against. In the end, it was a game to remember by both the teams, the umpires and the audience watching in awe.
