Match reports

Royals score 2 in 2

On a bright sunny day with some cool south bound breeze, it looked perfect for cricket. The ground was dry and all set for some entertaining cricket and despite the 2 hour drive for both teams, they were all excited to be there and looking forward to battle of skills, technique and perseverance. RCC team was missing some of its key players in the team and UNCC was missing atleast one of their star performers from the past – Cam. The Toss was won by Snehal, the Royals captain and he invited the Tarheels to bat first. Tarheels started their innings cautiously, weighing each shot before playing it which reaped them good benefits till the first drinks break when their score read 42 for no loss. They were assisted by some wayward bowlings by Royals who had conceded close to 25 wides until then. But at the same time, there were some very close calls that both Tarheels openers survived off the opening RCC bowlers. The story in the next section of the game was very different. The change of bowling from pace to spin not only put a stop to the barrage of wides but also brought 2 important breakthrough in Parijat’s 3rd over. The scoreboard at second drinks break read 85 for 5. That’s when Daman unleashed his magic over, which may go down as one of the best over ever bowled in TCL history. Here’s what the over looked like WWW.WW. Yes, 5 wickets in that one over. Unfortunately, the 3rd wicket was a run out and therefore Daman could not record his maiden hattrick, to which he came so close twice. Tarheels went from 57 for none to 85 for 9 in a matter of one hour. The last wicket showed some resistance and pulled the scoreboard to 98. Daman picked 4 wickets followed by Parijat who bagged 3 and Abhi and Keyur had one scalps each to their name. Royals opening pair had a similar cautious start, something they had not been used to with the dashing opening pair of Satbir and Fahad. The tight opening spell from Tarheels bowlers put RCC on a backfoot by getting Satbir out early on for a duck. Parijat joined Fahad and the duo stabilized the inning with a 50 run partnership. A mix up run out sent Fahad back and little did Tarheels know about the intentions of the next batsman Ravi, who under his calm disposition, had made up his mind to finish the game well ahead of time. Ravi hit some towering shots in his cameo of 19 and brought to the brink of victory. His innings ended by a superb and well judged catch at the boundary. The rest was easily taken care of by Sanath and Parijat who brought RCC home with 19 overs to spare. Prashanth was UNCC’s most successful bowler with 2 wickets while Talha was rewarded one wicket for his accurate bowling in the beginning. RCC may seem to have won the game rather easily, but the actual battle was much fiercer that what is suggested by the scrorecard. RCC appreciates the sporting spirit shown by the Tarheels throughout the game, their 3 cheers at the end for the opponents and the umpires and the cooperation in setting up the ground for play and wrapping it up at the end of the game. Well done to both teams, good job by the umpires and a great end to a wonderful day of cricket.
