Match reports

ANZACs continue good form with another win over the Wolfpack.

ANZACs played the Wolfpack on Sunday at the Shiloh Cricket Ground. Both umpires from Tigers had arrived on time and the toss was duly won by the visitors. The Wolfpack chose to bat on a dry wicket without any hesitation, with Ankit and Priyesh taking the crease. ANZACs opened the bowling with their regular bowling pair of Vishwanath and Sriram. Both batsmen began tentatively while the bowlers maintained a steady line. The boundaries were not forthcoming, so the batsmen wisely resorted to ones and twos to further the score. Vishwanath got the first breakthrough with Priyesh edging back to the keeper. Ankit could have been dismissed in the very next over but was reprieved at square-leg. But Sarvesh assured that the damage was minimal, getting the batsman bowled in his very first over. Ajinkya followed soon after and the Wolfpack were teetering at 34/3 after 9 overs. Hiren and Balaji then united to thwart any further attempts at picking up wickets. Both batsmen played sensibly; rotating strike and picking up the odd boundary when the opportunity presented it. Their fourth wicket stand took the Wolfpack through the 26th over as they added 84 crucial runs. Ketan finally broke the partnership (84 off 107 balls) deceiving Hiren with one that crashed into the stumps. Hiren departed on 40 and was soon followed by Balaji (36) as Sarvesh returned for more demolition work. The ANZACs quickly regained control of the game with Sarvesh picking up wickets at regular intervals. Sarvesh assured that the Wolfpack were unable to develop any more partnerships with an exemplary spell of bowling that netted six wickets for just 31 runs. The visitors had done well to get to 161 and it was up to the ANZACs batting now. Arpit and Sarvesh opened the innings and added 20 at almost a run a ball before Arpit was adjudged LBW. Sarvesh continued playing his shots and did not allow the pace to slow. With Ketan at the other end the pair added another 15 runs. Hiren struck once again, trapping Sarvesh in front. Ketan had to steady the innings and found an able ally in Kaushik. Both played a fantastic innings; balancing offense with solid defense. The two added 77 runs in 67 balls before Ketan was caught in the deep for a well made 32. Kaushik continued the good form with Vishwanath for support in the final partnership of the innings (52 off 48 balls) that saw the ANZACs through in the 26th over. Kaushik scored an invaluable 66 n.o. in two solid partnerships that ensured that the ANZACs crossed the finish line with overs to spare. However, it was Sarvesh's six wickets that earned him the Man-of-the-Match nomination. That spell had prevented the Wolfpack from posting a formidable total after a good partnership between Hiren and Balaji. The Wolfpack also had some good performances with Hiren and Balaji getting some runs under their belt and Hiren picking up two of the three wickets in the ANZACs innings. Both teams would like to thank Yaser and Haroon for a consistent job with the umpiring. Both umpires arrived on time, communicated well with the captains and ensured that the game was completed on time.
